Synology DS218+ DiskStation consumption
Today we will look at the consumption of the Synology DS218 + DiskStation NAS network storage, which was equipped with one Seagate IronWolf PRO 6TB HDD during the test. We used Loxone Smart Socket Air for two months for the measurement.
The storage has an almost stable consumption, which differs only in the order of tenths of a watt. The constant consumption is probably caused by the use for recording from security cameras. The attitudes of other users (ten) had no observable effect on consumption. According to Synology’s website, the power consumption of the device is 17.23 W in access mode and 5.4 W in hibernation mode. No further specifications are available for this data, so we assume that it is a consumption without hard disks. In our conditions with one HDD, we measured an average power consumption of 14.3 W, ie an annual consumption of 125.3 kWh / year. With an electricity price of CZK 3.5 / kWh, this is an annual cost of CZK 439.
